Running the Process Upgrade Tool

Run the Process Upgrade Tool on a process to upgrade the actions it contains.

Before you can upgrade an action, the following conditions must be met:

  • The associated QPAC is deployed. This is done automatically when the LiveCycle 7.x environment is upgraded using LiveCycle Configuration Manager.

  • The service operation that replaces the action is activated.

  • The upgrade definition file for the action is registered. (See Registering the location of upgrade definition files .)

  • The process is either unlocked or locked by the user account that you are currently using.

For information about which service operations replace which QPAC actions, and how the operations are configured, see QPAC mappings reference .

Note: After you upgrade a process version, you need to activate it so that it can be used. Depending on how you want to invoke the process, you may need to create endpoints by using the Applications and Services web pages of LiveCycle Administration Console.

To upgrade a process:

  1. In the Processes view, right-click either the process or the process version to upgrade and click Upgrade To LiveCycle ES.

  2. When the wizard opens, click Next to confirm that the listed process or process version is the one you want to upgrade.

  3. If you right-clicked a process in step 1, select the process version you want to upgrade.

  4. If the process is unlocked, select Obtain Lock On Selected Version Before Continuing and then click Next.

Note: Locking the process version ensures that another developer does not modify the process version during the upgrade.
  5. Verify that the actions you want to upgrade are ready to upgrade and click Next.

  6. Specify whether you want the upgraded process to be a new version of the existing process or to be a new process:

    • To create a new version, ensure that A New Version Of process name is selected, specify the major and minor version number of the process, and then click Next.

    • To create a new process, select A New Process Altogether, specify the name and category for the process, and then click Next.

Note: If you create a new process, any historical run-time data about the current process will not be associated with the new process.
  7. For each action you are upgrading, specify the service operation to use to replace the action, and then click Next:

    • Click the cell in the LiveCycle ES2 Operation column that corresponds with the action.

    • Select the service to replace the action or, to not upgrade the action at this time, select None (Requested By User).

Note: When you click Next, the upgrade is performed.
  8. Review the summary messages for the upgrade. To open the process with the upgraded actions, select Open process name When This Wizard Finishes.

  9. Click Finish.
