How Acrobat Shared Review works with building block

The Review, Commenting, and Approval building block uses Acrobat Shared Review to provide online review capabilities for review documents. However, review options in Acrobat Review Tracker do not effect the reviews that are managed by the building block. (See Understanding Acrobat shared reviews in Managed Review & Approval Solution Accelerator 9.5 Solution Guide .). Acrobat Shared Review can use WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning), CIFS (Common Internet File System, or a network share as a repository to store review documents and review comments.

The building block provides the following capabilities to a review document (PDF document) when a review is initiated:

  • Instruments the review document (PDF document) with JavaScript to provide the following information to Acrobat Shared Review:
    • Location of the repository server path.

    • Review deadline.

    • Access protocol.

    • Email addresses of the participants in a review ( reviewer, approver, review initiator, review moderator.)

  • Provides repository capabilities. A WebDAV server is provided by LiveCycle Content Services 9.

  • Creates a folder structure on the repository to store the PDF files and ensures that proper permissions are applied to the review.

Immediate visibility of others comments allows for real-time collaboration between users. Users are identified by an email address. Only participants who are assigned the appropriate permissions can participate in the review. It is a requirement that a user logs in to an Acrobat Shared Review using the same email address that is configured in Adobe User Management.

When users provide comments to a review, they log in to Workspace and complete reviews. Reviewers provide comments on the review document using the Acrobat or Adobe Reader. When users have both Acrobat and Adobe Reader installed on their computer, the web browser settings determine which to use.
