About the building block

The Review, Commenting, and Approval building block reduces the effort and complexity to build review and approval workflows. Users can start reviews and add metadata to reviews without a significant implementation effort. The building block allows you to define review and approval workflows using XML notation rather than creating human-centric processes in Adobe® LiveCycle® Workbench 9.5. (See Understanding reviews in Managed Review & Approval Solution Accelerator 9.5 Solution Guide .)

During the progress of a review, various review documents and review artifacts are created. All assets generated and used in a review are stored in persistent storage for retrieval or auditing. (See Understanding content repositories and review zones and Understanding review documents and supporting documents in Managed Review & Approval Solution Accelerator 9.5 Solution Guide .)

The Review, Commenting, and Approval building block includes services to perform several tasks:

  • Initiate review and approval processes.

  • Manage the review and approval processes.

  • Implement structured and secure review and approval processes.

  • Send notifications to review participants.

  • Monitor reviews through audit trails.

Building block capabilities

The building block provides the following capabilities:

  • Collaborative commenting: Comment on documents and control whether users can see the comments of other reviewers as the review progresses.

  • Review and approval workflow control: Permits users to easily automate review and approval workflows with little or no development experience. Users can change the review participants, durations, and end or restart reviews as required.

  • Reusable review processes: Allows organizations to develop enterprise-wide review templates for reviews that follow a similar workflow. Review templates promote reusability.

  • Flexible reviews: Enterprise reviews are often complex and require multiple review stages. Reviews can also require multiple iterations of each stage. Each stage consists of people who review and approve documents in parallel or serially. A review can be managed as it progresses and the review requirements can be changed as necessary.

  • Extensibility: Enterprise-wide reviews can hook into existing processes that you create with Adobe® LiveCycle® Workbench 9.5.

  • Auditability: Reviews for many organizations often adhere to internal and external regulations and must be traceable. Completed reviews are archived in persistent storage for viewing or auditing. Audits allow review and approval workflows to be tracked at any point in time or to be monitored for progress and for compliancy.
